Situated along the St. Mary's River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior, Sault Ste. Marie shares its "Twin Cities" title with a city by the same name located just across the water and the US border in Michigan. The small northern Ontario city is a stopping point for recreational boats travelling along the popular Sault Canal, and visitors will find nearly two dozen hotels and motels from which to choose, nearly all clustered in two locations. NEAR THE WATER
Approximately 10 different lodgings are situated on or around Queen Street and Bay Street, which run parallel to each other and the river in downtown Sault Ste. Marie. These are also conveniently located close to the city's rail station and the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, which leaves from Bay Street and runs 183 km (114 mi) north through Ontario wilderness. The Essar Sports and Entertainment Complex, the Station Mall Shopping Centre and the Sault Ste. Marie Casino are also located in the downtown area.
